Lohri Greetings

Every year, people celebrating Lohri consistently sends warm Lohri greetings to all friends and relatives. Apart from fun, Lohri celebrations also validate the uniqueness of each relationship and is a special occasion to celebrate one more year of a precious life. Lohri is a good time to gather together close family and friends for a special celebration. Traditional way of conveying Lohri greetings is either sweet delicacies or new clothes. But with changing times, the nature of the Lohri greetings has also changed tremendously.

The women have to decide as to how much they would give to the children who come asking for donation both in kind and money, how much they would require for the men who may want to participate in the village celebration and how much has to be retained at home since the women celebrate Lohri in their own courtyards, where the holy bonfire is lit and they perform the Gidda (a kind of dance).

Special gifts are also given to old as well as young on the occa sion of Lohri. Friends and relatives also visit each others home personally and wish them Happy Lohri.
